War of Love has began "I have been always listening to Nirvana", "I saw Axl Rose and decided that I want to be like him ", "My idol is Michael Monroe", - Jonne Aaron, the most bright star of Negative, repeats in every interview. Album War of Love was recorded three years after the day the band was created. It was released on March, 26 in 2003. Effective promotion was started from press-attack. Articles and interviews, of course with the pictures (oh, what a sweet girl, or is he a boy?), appeared in every newspapers and magazines in spring-summer. You read interview, look at the pictures (still is it boy or girl?) and go to the shop to buy the album without expecting anything good. But… surprise! Album with touching name War of Love got quite worthy. Five boys, growing up with hard-rock and glam, became older and started to play music, which is quite the same, a bit adapted to teenie girls of new age. Instead of angry rockes-alcoholics, known by regular damages in the hotels, fighting with the girl-friends and quarrels with journalists, we see cute youths who know how to use mascara and lip-gloss. Modern glam got a new name - emotional rock'n'roll. Sure, it's real rock'n'roll drive full of emotions - from romantic to miserable. According to the name of album, all the songs are about love only. Love, like it happens with the teenagers, is sad, unlucky, unshared, misunderstood and cruel. The songs about such love are always beautiful. The boys deserve praise. In spite of narrow subject of lyrics and obvious lack of music education, all the tracks are different and original, with its own mood and melodies. Songs "The Moment of Our Love" and "After All" were released on singles. In august "The Moment of Our Love" got gold status in Finland. Especial compliments may be given to songs "Still Alive" and "Misery". Jonne Aaron says that "Still Alive" is his best song. Well, it's defensible. This song is a sensible and touching ballade about sorrow, but with optimistic melancholy. "Misery" sounds cheerfullly and freshly, but the lyrics are really miserable - that really differs the song from the others. There's also video "The Moment of Our Love" on the CD, the first video of Negative. There's no idea in its plot at all - as usual. But still the video looks not that bad. Undoubtedly, Negative is worth respect, 'cos they became the first young band in Finland who dared to look back and remembered that everything new is forgotten past. Judging by intensive promotion, record-company GBfam Records found it's vein of gold. And what about guys from Negative? They still affect they are deeply surprised by everything happened arout them. But they also admit that it motivate them to move forward, to develop their skills and to bring their bright images and love songs to masses. Well, we agree and wait for a new album! Melamory |
