Restaurants & cafe in Helsinki

[Manala]

Manala

Address: Dagmarinkatu 2
Open: Weekdays - 11.00-4.00, Weekends – 14.00-4.00

This tr00 restaurant has a tr00 name - Manala, what means "Devil" (see logo). It is a good restaurant at all points. Located in the very city centre right against Finland-Talo, at the same side with club Botta. It is a nice place with good food at reasonable prices. For freak gourmets there are certain points in menu, like reindeer and bear meat. And the biggest advantage of the restaurant is the ability to feed hungry people until 4 o'clock in the morning.

  Address: Mannerheimintie 3-5

Zetor – is not just a common restaurant with good food, but it is a spiritual place. Zetor was founded and still owned by the musicians of the legendary group Leningrad Cowboys. Zetor is a model of famous Finnish tractor, a trademark. Restaurant with such owners has no rights to be usual.
Choosing dishes and waiting for them accompanied by reading menu, where all the dishes are described with vivid comments which, in fact, can not give the full picture of the ingredients. But it's rather amusing. All the dishes are truly Finnish and served in traditional way. So if the dish is mentioned as the Dish of the Finnish Prisoner in the menu, it means that the soup will be brought in crooked aluminium tureen.
PS: You should take into consideration that the restaurant is located in the farthermost corner from the main entrance. And all the other territory is the alcoholic bar with self-service.
PPS: Zetor is the favorite restaurant of the guys from Children of Bodom.

Iguana is s chain of bars&restaurants, where various bohemian persons (who have no opportunity to eat at home) usually use to eat. Actually, Iguana is a perfect place for boozing. But in the bar you can also find menu with a great variety of dishes for quiet reasonable prices (for example: beer - 5 euro, vegetarian paste - 7 euro). An interesting feature of that "restaurant" is the fact of taking orders directly by barman with paying straight away. In return you receive a ticket with a number of the table and wait for an order. The food is quiet good. And cider is as delicious, as everywhere.

Address: Aleksanterinkatu 15
Open: Monday-Thursday 11-01, Friday-Saturday 11-02, and Sunday- 13-01

Santa Fe is a luxurious Mexican restaurant located in one of the lanes in Aleksanterinkatu (at the same side with Suomalainen kirjakauppa). In general, the food there is more expensive comparing with the other places which are mentioned here, but it is a truly nice restaurant, with real Mexican flavor. And by itself Santa Fe is a good place with cozy atmosphere.

There is a chain of Chico's restaurants in Helsinki (all the addresses you can find on the web-page of the restaurant). The most convenient one is situated in the bus station area near Alko shop.
Chico's is a realized Russian dream about American restaurant. Here you can find burgers of a huge size and a mountain of fried potato in advance. The sizes of the other dishes are beyond imagination. And all of them have a wonderful taste. So, if you have an aim to be full until the next day with visiting night concert you just have to go and eat at Chico's.

[Cantina West]

Cantina West
www.cantinawest.com

Address: Kasarmikatu 23
Open: Monday-Tuesday 11-01; Friday 11-02; Saturday - 12-02 and Sunday - 12-22

One more "south American" restaurant in Helsinki. And it is famous with the fact the band HIM made here several good promo photos, which were published in the most famous teen-magazines. And if not to take into accounts that interesting fact, Cantina West is just a nice place with a good menu.

Address: Mannerheimintie 22-24
Open: Monday-Tuesday - 11.00-24.00; Friday - 11.00-01.00; Saturday 12.00-01.00; Sunday - summertime until 23.00, winter time until 18.00

Cafe Lasipalatsi is good for two things: location (the very center of Helsinki ) and its window (which give you a possibility to eat, chat, drink coffee, eat cake and at the same time to watch a slow city life). This cafe is multifunctional: you can order just a cup of tea here or have a full lunch with salad, different sandwiches and soup of the day. It depends on person, but we prefer to drink here latte while waiting for free internet access.

[Cafe Java]

Cafe Java

Address: Mannerheimintie 22-24
Open: Monday-Tuesday - 8-22; Wednesday-Thursday – 8-23; Friday - 8-24; Saturday 9-24, Sunday - 12-18

Cafe Java is an all around glassy cafe with cozy atmosphere, located right in front of Forum. In that cafe there's tasty coffee, which is rare thing in Helsinki. And during winter time when it is -30'C and there is a strong wind outside, Cafe Java offers delicious mint latte.

[Cafe Engel]

Cafe Engel
www.cafeengel.fi

Address: Aleksanterinkatu 25
Open: During the week 8-24, Saturday 9.30-24, Sunday 11-22

Cafe Engel is our favorite and perhaps the only true coffee house in Helsinki. You can find a great variety of coffee drinks in the menu and also a lot of tasty pies, cakes and other sorts of bakery. CrimsonDawn WebTeam prefers a cake with cranberries and coffee Engel.
The next advantage is the location: you can see the best Helsinki view from the window of the cafe – a great white church with a long front staircase, located in the Senaatintori.

[Hullu Kukko]

Hullu Kukko
www.hullukukko.fi

Address: Simonkatu 8
Open: Monday11-23, Tuesday 11-00, Wednesday-Thursday 11-01, Friday11-02, Saturday 13-02, Sunday - day off

Hullu Kukko is a nice and comfortable place. On the first floor there is a cafe-bar, on the second one - a restaurant. You can enter the bar as from the street (the side of Simonkentta Hotel), so from the Forum. The dimpliest way to reach the restaurant is to enter from Forum roof-floor. Even we have never been to the restaurant we can say the bar is really good. During cold windy winter nights you can get the best glow wine (glöögi) in the city.

[Kiasma]

Kiasma
www.kiasma.fi

Address: Mannerheiminaukio 2

Cafe Kiasma is situated on the first floor of the famous museum Kiasma. In general it is rather common cafe: common sandwiches, cakes, pies and coffee for 2 euro. But local people consider that Cafe Kiasma is a special, student place. So if you are suddenly interested in modern art and then you decided to have a coffee in a special place, you are welcome!

[Bar 9]

Bar 9
www.bar9.net
Address: Uudenmaankatu, 9

#9 is a quiet cozy bar-restaurant. Some time ago this place was used to be mentioned by Jurky69 in the thanx-lists of The 69 Eyes albums. According to the web-site menu, here it is possible to have a snack fro a reasonable price.
