This is about transport inside Finland. There is no
need to tell you about public transport of a separate city, since every
Finnish city has its own rules and prices. Besides Finnish towns are so
small, that it would be much easier to walk - good for your health and
saves a lot of money (one trip by bus, tram or underground would cost
you about 2 euro, at night even more). Finland is famous for its well-developed
transport structure. As a rule, in each city bus and railway stations
are either on one and the same square, or within each other's sight. There are no student discounts for the trains in Finland. There are for the buses though. At any bus station, if you have ISIC, you can buy a student card which costs 5.40 euro. NB! You need a photograph for this card! This document will allow you to travel by bus with a 50% discount. For example: you need to go from Helsinki to Joensuu. The trip will take you 7-8 hours. The ticket costs 43 euro. This card will allow you to buy it for only 21.50 euro. Compare this price with the one for the train - 65 euro. Ain't it quite a difference? And don't forget that you would like to return from Joensuu back to civilization, so… go count! ;) The train time-table is here - http://www.vr.fi (there is also the English version). The bus time-table - http://www.matkahuolto.info. The site is in Finnish but it is quite comprehensible :). |
| This phrase vocabulary is a bit… specific:) Those who know something in Finnish language certainly enjoy it. In case you don't speak a word in Finnish… well, you may try to learn these phrases, but remember our advise: never use them in respectable society:). But fests and bars are the right places to practice these Finnish words and phrases:) Vittujen kevat - bar or another public place |
