Sara @ Nosturi, Helsinki
27.09.2003

Every time we think or speak about Sara we - Crimson Dawn webteam - have the same feeling, which is hardly possible to describe. First of all, Sara – is "our" band, absolutely. There's not that many bands that we found ourselves, without anyone's advise or recommendation. But even among those bands Sara is special. Sara is unique, incomparable and absolutely original band with impressive music and impressionistic lyrics in Finnish. The situation is piquant, 'cos we do love Sara a lot, we buy albums of Sara without any doubts, but Sara seems to be almost unknown even in Finland. But what a unique feeling to meet someone, to speak to him/her and suddenly to find out that he/she knows and loves Sara as well! It's like a closed society, like a Masonic lodge for the ones.

In summer 2003 we spent in Finland two weeks and visited four festivals, but we couldn't catch Sara anywhere and it was a pity. I also couldn't manage to go to Helsinki to see Sara in August. So when I saw in tour dates, that Sara plays in Nosturi in September, I took my passport and run to Finnish embassy. I guess as a reason of visit I had to write not "tourism", but "Sara gig" lol %) And I believe I looked killing when I went to Tiketti and bought there 20 tickets to HIM and 1 ticket to Sara:) *laughs*

Nosturi club impressed me a lot. First of all I liked the place where the club is located and how the place looks. The word "nosturi" can be translated from Finnish language like "a hoisting crane". So, this "Hoisting Crane" is in harbour. It is not that beautiful harbour with expensive ferries and bright lights. This harbour is technical and contractual . Near the club there is a ferry fabric and lots of unloading cranes. The club itself is a cubic dark-brown box. So, the atmosphere fits Sara a lot.

Secondly I liked the club inside. Like Tavastia, Nosturi hall has two floors. On the stage floor there are wide borders, where you can stay, sit and even lay down, and you can see the stage from the borders perfectly. On the second floor there is an alcoholic area.

Among the audience were many teenagers and Jussi69:) And it was nice to see Pasi, HIM sound engineer, on stage:)

Like it was a year ago, support act was performed by freaks called Kuoleet intiaanit, "Dead Indians". They look… impressive: wearing dinner jacket and top hats, with lots of white grease-paint on the faces. And the mugs are so deadly serious and unemotional. Where from they get so strong self-control – I don't know. I laughed like mad many times during their performance. And they have a good show, I have to confess.

While Kuoleet intiaanit were on stage, Jorma, Sara singer, came to alcoholic area. I was happy. He is still cute:)… with his little metal thing and in woolen sweater.

Then Sara gig started. The guys came on stage in true-costumes with many metal stuff on them. I'd seen Jorma already, so I started to look at Kristian. Ah, he is still attractive, especially in new cyber-overall. And during the whole gig Kristian stood sideways to the audience. That made his figure even more conceptual.

Four guitar of stage – that's why I appreciate Sara a lot. Just imagine! – powerful drums, three guitars and one bass! It sounds! Why the walls don't crack – I don't know. The band play harmonious and perfectly coordinated. Music wave create amazing mental unity between the guys and the audience.

I was impressed by the audience. There were unexpectedly many people, too many people for Sara gig in Helsinki. And the audience was adequate, what amazed me most of all. People gave a really warm welcome to Sara. The band played many songs from Saattue. And the public liked it. Its reaction on Seuraa and KSK was great! The audience sang the songs together with Jorma, the audience enjoyed the gig! But everything fade if to compare it with Tanssiin live. It's worth to go to abroad to see and to hear it! While Sara performed Tanssiin, the audience got crazy. Gloomy concert hall with pale light and boiled up crowd was like an interpretation of Tanssiin video – with darn north wind, cold fiords and heavenly powerful music wave.

When the gig ended, I was empty. Actually, coming to Finland I was sure I finally take interview with Jorma. But we couldn't manage it before the gig, and after the gig it was too late, it just didn't have any sense. There were no questions worth to ask, there were no words to explain how great the gig was. So, when Jorma appeared in alcoholic area again, I just introduced myself, thanked him for the gig and gave him a present, which impressed him a lot:) I told him that there are some smart Russian girls who like Sara. And Jorma complained me about a long trip to Helsinki, about his tiredness and stuff. I said something kind to him and left him alone.

When we went outside it was about 3 am and it was raining like hell. South harbour, mooring line, unfinished huge ferry, strong wind, terrible rain and deep night. Truly Sara's atmosphere! We all run to our homes and hotels, and I was amazingly happy that I've done it!
